IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) currently has 89 technical committees (TC) and 107 sub-technical committees (SC), and has developed thousands of international standards (covering electrical, electronic and related technologies). The commonly seen "IP protection level" is defined by IEC60529, which specifies the protection level of electrical equipment enclosures against solid foreign objects (including dust) and liquids (water). Its application fields are very wide:
Consumer electronics: such as the IP68 level of mobile phones and watches.
Industrial equipment: such as mining machinery, which needs to prevent dust, water or corrosive liquids from entering.
Outdoor facilities: outdoor lighting fixtures (often requiring IP65), which need to withstand wind, rain and sand.
Medical: some medical equipment that may be cleaned and disinfected need to prevent liquid from entering.

1. Direct Adoption: Some countries or regions may directly adopt IEC standards as their national standards.
2. Modified Adoption: In more cases, countries will make minor modifications to IEC standards or adopt them as equivalent, converting them into their own national standards (such as China's GB standards).
3. Conformity Assessment: IEC itself does not conduct certification, but it has established three important conformity assessment systems to support the implementation of standards:
IECEE (CB Scheme): A mutual recognition system for safety testing and certification of electrical and electronic equipment.
IECEx (Ex Certification System): A system for standards and certification of equipment used in explosive environments.
IECQ (Electronic Components Quality Assessment System): A system for quality and reliability assessment of electronic components.
